Learn More about New Canadian Entry Requirements – Mandatory Temperature Checks
Are you planning to fly to or within Canada this summer? Be prepared for mandatory temperature checks upon entry to be rolled out in the coming days.
If you have an elevated temperature but you do not have a medical certificate to explain why (a medical or physical condition), you will not be permitted to continue your travel and will be asked to re-book after 14 days.
Transport Canada issued a News Release on June 16, 2020 providing details of the forthcoming changes.
What do you Need to Know About the New Canadian Entry Requirements?
It will apply to: ALL travelers (including Canadians) flying to or from Canadian airports for either international or domestic destinations.
INTERNATIONAL TRAVELERS:
Starting June 30, 2020, you will have your temperature checked before departure. If you are flying into Canada from any country, including the United States, also need to be prepared with the following:
1) A self-quarantine plan (you can also download the ArriveCAN app on Apple iOS or Google Play)
2) Wearing a mask upon entry and in transit
3) Health screening questions to identify symptomatic travellers
DOMESTIC TRAVELERS:
Temperature screening will be added as part of departure screening procedures (which include healthy screening questions and face mask requirement). Some provinces have self-quarantine requirements as well – check before you fly! Here are the province specific pages to visit: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Prince Edward Island, and Yukon.
Departure temperature screenings will be rolled out domestically in phases:
1) By the end of July, temperature screening stations will be placed in the departure section of the four major airports that are currently identified as the only Canadian airports for international travel (Montréal, Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver).
2) By September 2020, temperature screening stations will be in place in the departure sections of the next 11 busiest airports in Canada (St. John’s, Halifax, Québec City, Ottawa, Toronto – Billy Bishop, Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Kelowna, Victoria).
